Even with the wide availability of ADR processes, some parents are unable to resolve custody and parenting time disputes. A Custody/Parenting Time Evaluation, when done thoroughly and ethically, can help families, attorneys, and courts resolve these issues. This training addresses the “how-to’s” as well as the complexities of the evaluation process. It includes such topics as:

  • Creating an evaluative protocol
  • Use of psychological testing and questionnaires
  • Conducting parent and child interviews and observations
  • Using collateral information to inform the process
  • Identifying and addressing Domestic Violence dynamics
  • Drafting and presenting recommendations and reports
  • Addressing bias in an evaluative process

This training is based on APA and AFCC best practice guidelines, as well as Minnesota law and practice. It combines lecture, interactive discussion of topics, and application of concepts through simulation.

Minimum Qualifications: Current licensed mental health care provider, licensed attorney or Guardian ad Litem with five years of experience working with families or individuals in the process of separation/divorce. Exceptions are considered on a case by case basis. Please call 612-237-6505 with questions about qualifications.

To ensure maximum engagement, this course is limited to fifteen people, so that the class can engage in informal discussion throughout the day.

Out of respect for unforeseen schedule conflicts, Mediation Center will transfer a participant into another training, less a 20% processing fee, so long as the participant notifies the Center up to seven days before the start of the training. There is a maximum of two transfers per registration.

Mediation Center recognizes there are unforeseen events, schedule conflicts, and family emergencies in each of our lives. Out of respect for the above, please review our policy on accommodating participants who need to cancel:

  1. Full refund up to 30 days before the start of the training less a 20% processing fee.
  2. 50% refund up to 14 days before the start of the training.
  3. No refund 14 days or less before the start of the training.

During the pandemic, exceptions to the transfer and cancellation policy will be made on a case-by-case basis.  Please contact Aimee Gourlay prior to the first day of class for consideration of a waiver for COVID-19 reasons.
