Take your professional skills to a new level. Mediation Center's four day, 30-Hour Civil Mediation Training is a course that develops those skills that are most important to deepening your knowledge of effective conflict resolution. Mediation is a flexible and creative process that offers individuals and groups in conflict an opportunity to find mutually satisfactory resolutions. The mediator is a neutral facilitator who uses the process of mediation to create an environment for parties to communicate effectively, explore their underlying interests and find constructive outcomes.
This course offers experiential training with a focus on practical skills - designed for professionals who want to learn how to mediate. Experienced mediators and trainers Aimee Gourlay and Susan Mainzer introduce a structured, yet flexible, five-step mediation process. Participants will develop their skills at identifying interests, issues and positions, generating options, framing issues, breaking impasse, remaining neutral in difficult mediation sessions, and identifying power imbalances. This course also examines the cause of conflict, and cultural and ethical concerns in mediation. Participants will add a variety of tools to their toolbox.
